Toyota’s Woven City: a Prototype City of the Future

Toyota plans to build on the site of its old factory a prototype city of the future for 2,000 inhabitants, in which developers can test robotics, technologies smart home and transport, self-driving cars, artificial intelligence and innovative infrastructure designs, and also other inventions in real conditions.

By words Toyota Motor President Akio Toyoda, the presented concept is planned to be implemented on a plot of 71 hectares in Higashi-Fuji, Japan. Construction should start in 2021 and will consist of several stages.

The idea is Tom, so that to create wholly controlled settlement where people live, work, have fun and participate in trials at the same time. Insofar as town will be built from scratch, then company plans initially tie the entire infrastructure together and use only renewable energy sources to power it.

In the settlement, all streets will be divided into three zones: for unmanned vehicles, for private cars and for pedestrians. Although these routes will be separated by tree lines, but all of them will eventually be woven into a single network, namely so project  got the name «Woven city».

All buildings are planned to be made of wood, but using advanced robotic manufacturing methods. They will be grouped in blocks, in each of which there will be residential, work and entertainment buildings, and all industrial buildings hidden underground, including a supply network consisting of robotic vehicles and autonomous cargo handling systems.

When this artificial intelligence and home robots will be implemented everywhere, helping with garbage collection, restocking food and other daily activities.

After the completion of the construction of the settlement, the developers will be able to move to it for some time and work right on the spot. Moreover, the population will not only consist of newcomers researchers, but also from the residents living there permanently.

At the end of his presentation, Akio Toyoda urged others corporations to implement similar projects to contribute to a better world.

Let us remind you that 2019 year UN demonstrated own model of the city of the future. In the spring the concept of a self-sufficient floating settlements on ten thous. person.
